Won't Let Go

This past Thursday's HFG lesson focused on Colossians 4:2: "Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving." We were encouraged to pray, to make it consistent and to seek after God. What stuck out to me was one other passage that was referenced, but we really didn't camp on this point too long. Amazing how God can speak in just the "smallest" things that may be said. Anyway, Angelo made reference to when Jacob wrestled with God in Genesis 32. He quoted the last part of verse 26, which is what stuck out to me: "I will not let go unless you bless me."

This is how we are to be in prayer. We must wrestle with God. We must be persistent in our prayers. Sure, if God answers our prayer immediately, that's great. But when His answer is "not right now" and we know that what we're praying for is not out of any selfish motives but for God's glory, we have to keep praying. We can't just offer up a prayer and leave it that. This isn't "set it and forget it." Our prayer should be like that of Jacob: "I will not let go unless you bless me."

So true, so convicting...so many times I expect answers to prayer to be like the drive thru at McDonald's ...place your order and pick up at the next window....how awful does that sound, but true!!! Thanks for the blog, it is a good reminder that we must be diligent in prayer!
